In 1956, when neighboring high schools would no longer accept graduates from Jericho's elementary schools, part of the Robert Seaman School temporarily housed the high school while the twenty year old Cedar Swamp School began its conversion to the high school.

The first library in Jericho was located in the Robert Seaman School. Jericho's first librarian was Amna Stabler.

The high school library had an avid library club. They went on field trips and held a yearly Faculty Tea. This photograph of the library club (below) was taken after the move to the "new" building on Cedar Swamp Road. The location of the room in the picture below, if it still existed, would be in the area of the current middle school library computer lab.

According to "The Library Log" (document opens in Adobe Acrobat), the library had 3,200 books. In 2004 the high school library houses a collection of over 25,000 items including books, videos, and DVDs.

According to the 1965 Imperator (high school yearbook), "The size of our library is not adequate for all the students in both the Senior and Junior High. There is not sufficient space for the ever increasing volume of books being added to Jericho's shelves."

A new addition to the building was completed in 1966 with a larger, "state-of-the-art" library.

The new space was much larger and had room for the growing collection. The photograph on the right was taken from the balcony. Yes - the balcony!

The high school library remained in this location (which is now the Learning Center) until 2001.

The photograph below shows the new secondary schools' libraries. The top floor houses the high school library. The middle school library is on the ground floor.

The new library has a cathedral ceiling and a second story view that is spectacular in every season. The library has its own classroom with about thirty computers.
