Robert Seaman Elementary School
A Message from Our Principal

Mr. Adam D. Winnick

Dear Parents,

It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that we enter into another year together at Robert Seaman Elementary School. We continue to promote our overarching socioemotional theme of "Every 1 Counts" daily. This year the sub-theme is "Turning Zero into a Hero" to celebrate the ways individuals collaborate together in our school community.

Robert Seaman Elementary School is one of the three elementary schools in the Jericho Public School District, educating approximately 320 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. We provide a strong academic program and a nurturing environment. The dedication of the Robert Seaman School staff, combined with support from our parents, community, central administration, and Board of Education, affords our students the opportunity to achieve academic and personal success.

Student government, peer mediation, chorus, Field Day, and Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) week are some of the annual traditions and special programs in which our students are involved. We take pride in our diverse learning environment and strive to meet the needs of all children in a variety of ways. Our sophisticated technology lab allows our students to integrate the world of technology into their daily learnings as well. Also, we offer many after school clubs for our students each year. Another important facet of Robert Seaman is community service. Through our PTA, grade-level events, and Student Council, we promote ways to help our community exemplify good citizenship.

It is my vision to have a school where meaningful educational experiences are combined with the children’s natural excitement about learning to enable each child to reach his/her potential in a positive environment. Differentiating instruction and meeting the socio-emotional needs of our youngsters are of prime importance to me as well.

In the past, I have served as the principal of Locust Primary School in the Garden City Public School District. Prior to that experience, I taught fourth grade for seven years in the Jericho Public School District and third grade in the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District. My teaching at the intermediate elementary level, coupled with my administrative role at the primary level, allows me to have a solid grasp on the entire elementary experience. My thorough understanding of the New York State Learning Standards, in conjunction with my experiences administering many of the New York State Assessments, provides me with great insight as to where our youngsters are headed academically. In addition, I have taught math enrichment workshops to students, parents, and teachers at the Goudreau Museum of Mathematics; participated in Writing Institutes through Columbia Teachers College; and learned all about MSTe (the integration of math, science, and technology at the elementary school level). Additionally, I worked at the college level at the start of my career. It is with the combination of all of these experiences that I return to Robert Seaman and plan to continue its tradition of excellence.

I enjoy serving as the principal of Robert Seaman School and aim to form a strong partnership with you, the parents, as we embark upon another school year. It is my goal for the Robert Seaman faculty and staff to collaborate together with parents to provide a positive and productive school experience for each and every child. Enjoy our school web page because it is designed to provide you with an insight into the array of activities, programs, and events at our school. As I often quote, “The future is hidden even from those who make it.” Here’s to a wonderful future together! I look forward to seeing all of you soon.
